The Assault on the Internet

After reading the first few paragraphs of Al Gore’s book excerpt in Time, I became convinced that Gore had not, in fact, invented the internet. This is because his discussion of the destruction of democracy seems so… 1990s. All this stuff about TV as a “one-way” medium, consolidation of ownership, etc.

But, of course, by the end he’s the same Al Gore whose on the payroll at Apple and Google: a smart, new-media-savvy guy who comes out swinging with an argument for the Internet as the lone savior of the Republic. That’s right: network neutrality will save the world.

Well, that and curbing carbon emissions, of course.

Update: Jeff Jarvis has more.
